distcc not working under sudo?

leave a comment »

I didn’t notice this until my laptop fan starts spinning like crazy. Apparently sudo emerge ... doesn’t call up distcc, nor does sudo make ..., but obtaining root through sudo -i and distcc works again. Weird since I already have env_keep += PATH in my sudoers.

will figure this out when I have time. Poor lappy~

workaround for “stale NFS file handle” possibly from a coLinux messup

leave a comment »

Tried to run coLinux with an existing distro (gentoo) on my tablet, and after reboot acpid stops working. Apparently /var/run/acpid.socket becomes a stale NFS file handle™ and refuses any rm attempt. Same thing with some other files under /tmp.

workaround:

#/bin/sh
for d in /var/run /tmp; do
    mv $d $d.stale
    mkdir $d
    chmod --reference=$d.stale $d
done

Still don’t know how to remove those staled files though.

if you’re using xf86-video-intel and get glxgears reporting a fps close to your lcd refresh rate, use the line in title to get something sensible

anticipate, always anticipate

have been using the Deadline scheduler for so long because of the kernel info touting it as “almost as good as Anticipatory”. now seems it’s the culprit of firefox3 being so slow (as in everything–address bar completion, mouse gesture, etc)
